Analysing terrain data
Hidalgo is the first chute past the Y on the Highline Ridge.
The entrance is a drop-in from a cornice that always forms on this windswept part of the ridge.
Just below the cornice is a relatively wide face that narrows about halfway down.
Often, the last quarter of the run requires some assessment, as there’s a steep face that doesn’t hold snow well.
The two options are to pick your way through some obstacles to the right, or if there’s a decent pad of snow below the face, jump out far enough to clear it.
It’s not a big jump, but the avalanche road at the bottom of the run can come up pretty quickly.
