Alpspitze, 2628 m
Exposed ski tour 2000 meters above Garmisch-PartenkirchenThe Alpspitze is not only the landmark of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, but also offers ski tourers a racy destination. Due to the upstream ski area, originality and tranquillity suffer a little, but the lifts allow a shorter ascent and snow-covered pistes a valley descent into spring. There is no easy ascent to the steep summit pyramid in winter. Even the simplest route over the Bernade ridge and the Oberkar requires easy climbing and snow-stapping on an exposed ridge. The direct ascents via the Schöngänge or even via the Alpspitz-Ferrata, which are also carried out regularly in winter and spring, represent an increase. The most sought-after destination for downhill aspirants is the direct east descent, which in good conditions leads steeply (a good 45 degrees) down to the Oberkar. Especially in spring you have to be very early here, because the flank is shaded almost from sunrise. An overnight stay in the Kreuzeckhaus or in the Stuibenhütte is a good alternative to the late start of the lift (8.30 a.m.) or a very early approach through the ski area and the direct ascent via the Schöngänge.
