Analysing terrain data
Expert hike-to terrain accessed from the top of the challenger and headwaters lifts.
Series of generally north facing chutes oriented E/W along the ridge.
Chutes are transected ~1/3 to 1/2 of the way down by a less-erosive rock formation known as “the buttress”, where the chutes typically become very narrow and navigation can become difficult.
Terrain here characterized by numerous unmarked hazards, extremely steep terrain, variable snow conditions, and large cliffs (and that’s just the hike!).
Know where you’re going! Two entrances just beyond the rock creek bomb tram.
Two good, fall line descents with, a tricky buttress navigation.
Large cliffs at the bottom of the chutes necessitate a climbing traverse to Whitetail as an egress.
This area should only be skied if with expert skiers familiar with the terrain – missing the traverse to Whitetail has serious consequences.
