Expert hike-to terrain accessed from the top of the challenger and headwaters lifts.
Series of generally north facing chutes oriented E/W along the ridge.
Chutes are transected ~1/3 to 1/2 of the way down by a less-erosive rock formation known as “the buttress”, where the chutes typically become very narrow and navigation can become difficult.
Terrain here characterized by numerous unmarked hazards, extremely steep terrain, variable snow conditions, and large cliffs (and that’s just the hike!).
Know where you’re going! Rock Creek – typically accessed from the Jack Creek entrance with an exposed traverse over to Rock Creek.
In higher snow years and in the spring, rock creek can be skied from the rock creek sign on the hike just past Jack Creek.
Like Jack Creek, many different options and line variations here.
Technical moves through the buttress open up into an amphitheater akin – albeit slightly larger – than Jack Creek’s.
