Hohe Ifen is the most unusual Allgaeu mountain. A green plateau, gently sloping south from the summit, falls down on all four sides with low but often vertical walls, which are called the Ifen wall. In the north, a kilometre-wide karst area is situated in front of the Hohe Ifen, which bears the name Gottesacker because of the often missing vegetation. The special weathering form of the karst, which is known in other regions as Karren, is called Schratten here. The Hohe Ifen attracts - despite the steep step in the Ifenmauer - the mountaineers in droves. The view from up there, i.e. from immediate proximity, over the vastness of the Gottesacker plateau is particularly impressive.
