Analysing terrain data
The exposure grade does not take into account objective hazards (stone fall, seracs…) but only the consequences of the skier falling.
Low Exposure (E1): Exposure is limited to that of the slope itself. Getting hurt is still likely if the slope is steep and/or the snow is hard.
Medium Exposure (E2): As well as the slope itself, there are some obstacles (such as rock outcrops) which could aggravate injury.
High Exposure (E3): In case of a fall, death is highly likely.
Extreme Exposure (E4): In case of a fall, the skier faces certain death.
Zut Zut is the line that cuts across two sets of rock bands, moving you from Sapphire Bowl and into Diamond Bowl.
This line is usually in good condition as the snow builds up on the relatively narrow pathway above the massive cliff located below.
Zut Zut is located within the Gemstone bowls, therefore requiring you to use the Spanky's Ladder boot pack and taking the traverse to the entrance of Sapphire Bowl.
Accessing Zut Zut requires navigating the very challenging entrance into Sapphire Bowl, and keeping left, which will take you towards Sapphire Chutes.
Take a left after you have successfully found your way into Sapphire Bowl and navigate this line between the cliffs that will deposit you into Diamond Bowl.
There are cliffs above and below you so make sure you have some knowledge of this area already, and have adequate visibility needed to be very aware of your surroundings.
After moving between the cliffs, Zut Zut opens up to the wide open lower section of Diamond Bowl where you can score some more turns on your way down to the road.
Very good snow can be found within this line, making it a popular line of choice within Spanky's.
If you aren't ready to hit the groomed Blackcomb Glacier Road below just yet, Zut Zut is a line that maximizes your time in the Spanky's zone by allowing you to enjoy the tricky entrance of Sapphire Bowl while still scoring some turns lower down in Diamond Bowl as well.
