Exposure

Exposure

The exposure grade does not take into account objective hazards (stone fall, seracs, etc) but only the consequences of the skier falling.

Low Exposure (E1): Exposure is limited to that of the slope itself. Getting hurt is still likely if the slope is steep and/or the snow is hard.

Medium Exposure (E2): As well as the slope itself, there are some obstacles (such as rock outcrops) which could aggravate injury.

High Exposure (E3): In case of a fall, death is highly likely.

Extreme Exposure (E4): In case of a fall, the skier faces certain death.

Low Exposure (E1)Exposure is limited to that of the slope itself. Getting hurt is still likely if the slope is steep and/or the snow is hard.

Description

Park at the Argenta pull-out on the S side, 7.1 miles up Big Cottonwood Canyon road.

Cross the creek and skin up the huge Argenta slide path trending to the right.

In the upper bowl head towards the W and gain the ridge, then follow this to the summit.

From the summit head to the north and east to find the entry right off the ridge.

The top few turns can be quite steep getting into the chute.

It's a short, but sweet several turns in a nice rock lined passage.

From here you can boot back up and ski one of the other several runs off Argenta, or continue down the long slope with trees and gullies that run to the canyon floor.
