La Meije - Pic Oriental: Arête NE (voie normale)
La Meije Orientale (or "Oriental Peak", 3891 m), is the summit that ends at the E the ridge of the ridge of La Meije, emblematic mountain of the massif of Les Écrins, which culminates in the Grand Pic (3982 m). It is a very individualized summit, whose ascent back and forth from the Aigle refuge is a very beautiful snow race.
The normal route, along the NE ridge, is a very classic and popular race, which offers very beautiful views of the Lautaret and Homme glaciers, as well as the very steep N face of Pic Gaspard. The view from the summit is exceptional, covering almost all of the French Alps, and as far as the Matterhorn and Mont-Rose. The nearby Finger of God reveals the impressive peaks on its S side.
