Description

Although Piste Number 27 technically starts at the top of the Schiltgrat lift, the run changes completely below the Gimmeln T-Bar bottom station.

Always left ungroomed and normally only navigable in excellent snow conditions, this can offer some of the best powder turns in resort if it's caught at the right time.

The initial section is unassuming, but then you drop into the tree line and there are some narrow technical sections that can become quite difficult if many people have been down.

A couple of almost hairpin-like bends in the trees mask what is to come.

When you leave the tree line you are presented with a massive snowfield above the village of Gimmelwald which, as it is over alpine meadow, can produce great turns with little fear or rocks underneath.

This wide expanse allows you to pick your own route down a relatively steep gradient run, before crossing the upper village road and going down a shorter field to reach the cable car station.

This lower field can become very icy and mogulled as many tobogganers hurtling down from Mürren use it as a short cut to the cable car station.

This run can provide great powder immediately after a snowfal,l but can also be quickly affected by sunshine, plus having to go back up on the Gimmelwald-Mürren cable car can be problematic as you may have to wait a while.
