Description

Being the highest mountain solely in Italy, the Gran Paradiso holds a special place in the hearts of Italian mountaineers and is a highly coveted summit. The fact that it is also one of the lowest and technically easiest of the Alpine 4000 metre peaks makes it all the more appealing to alpinists and ski tourers of all nationalities.

This 3 day tour will lead you up to the welcoming Rifugio Chabod then over the Gran Paradiso's 4061 metre summit and down to the Rifugio Emanuelle, from where you'll round off your trip with an ascent of the Tête du Grand Etret - a wild peak on the edge of the National Park. Both huts you stay in are typically Italian, meaning that they provide a warm welcome and huge servings of delicious food. However, both can be busy in high season and making reservations is highly recommended.

The 2 summits, meanwhile, are both fabulous, with the Gran Paradiso being the one you'll tell your friends about, and the Tête du Grand Etret the one you'll probably keep to yourself for next time you want to escape the crowds!

If you don't feel quite ready for this trip due to a lack of fitness or acclimatisation, check out our guidebook to the tours above the nearby Rifugio Benevolo, a gorgeous hut in a little-known part of the northern Gran Paradiso region.
