Description

This 8-day Transalp mountain bike ride starts appropriately in Switzerland’s biking mecca, the area surrounding the stunning Lake Lucerne. Mountain bikers, road bikers, and even motorbikers whizz around the crystal blue lake, climbing up through rock-carved tunnels and trails lacing up, down, and around the lake’s surrounding ring of mountains. You'll begin in the medieval town of Lucerne, an elegant place that goes beyond the classic Swiss chocolate box charm, enticing visitors with its colourful al frescos and unusual wooden Chapel Bridge. The dominating presence of Mount Pilatus and Mount Titlis on the horizon quickly beckon riders into the expansive landscapes and the thrilling unknown. To escape the motorbikers, tour groups, and romantic getaway couples, replace comfort and elegance with challenge and adventure as you climb up away from Lucerne and head towards the Bernese Alps. During these eight days of riding, you will be faced with many grueling climbs and fantastic descents across some of the most famous passes in central Switzerland, including the ferocious Kleine Scheidegg Pass at 2061m. Watch out for soaring eagles overhead and bright wildflower meadows down below as you climb up unforgiving mountain paths and eventually cruise down flowy singletrack to some of Switzerland’s most incredible alpine lakes, including the huge Lake Thon. This epic 8-day adventure will take you all the way across the border into northwestern Italy, finishing up at the classic piedmont town of Aosta in the Aosta Valley, which advertises its charm with the tagline “magic is real”. Ride the adventure all the way to the end to find out what they mean by that!
