Out and Back trip up to the summit of Fairmont Mountain. Taking this route guarantees a long approach as the service road ends about 7km from the base of the peak. Fairly straightforward scramble to the summit up the main south facing couloir however the south-southwest face offers a nice climbers scramble on decent rock. This does put you in some severely exposed spots but is a quite enjoyable climb up. The easier option will be a bit of a chossy grind up but a nice quick descent. My route up goes through the climbers scramble while my descent route is the normal ascent route.

Description

The better approach would be to stay east on the service road which take you down the valley before heading back up to the base of the mountain. This will save you 10+km of walking but will be a longer drive. 4 wheel drive and high clearance is a must on this service road as it is very rutted at times.
