Volcán Quetrupillan Map

With a huge glacier in its crater, this volcano has beautiful views, as it is located between the Villarrica Volcano and the Lanin Volcano.

Description

This route is one of the most popular in the sector, and is possible throughout the winter, but it is probably better in spring, when the road is clear (to avoid a very long approach). As it is a long route with 1,300 meters of elevation gain, it requires a high level of fitness.

To get there, take the S-939 gravel road, Pucón, until you reach the forest where you can park on the side of the road. Remember not to obstruct the road because this road is used by trucks. If the snow conditions allow it, you can get to the farm where you will be able to park your car.

The adventure begins in a forest of Lenga and Coihue trees facing to the southeast where you can appreciate the native flora and fauna.

Around 1600 masl. the forest begins to open up and the views of the Villarrica volcano and the access route through the valley appear. From that point, you start walking on volcanic terrain that in winter is usually covered with snow and ice. You have to walk on that slope towards the summit for 2-3 hours.

The last ridge is the last effort to get to the top. The slope becomes steeper and there are usually ice formations, so the use of crampons is recommended.

The view from the top is incredible! You can enjoy its huge glacier-covered crater, and the volcanoes Rukapllan (Villarrica) and Lanin.

The descent will depend on the snow and its conditions, it is recommended to go down the same slope into the forest, which you can also enjoy if there's enough snow.
