Vallee Blanche
Perhaps the most famous ski descent in the world? Technically moderate but very serious skiing in an absolutely breathtaking setting.
Moderate Freeride Skiing
- Distance
- 14 km
- Ascent
- 11 m
- Descent
- 2 km
Great skiing links sections of steeper technical terrain with wide open stretches. Perfect for taking in the view.
Freeride Skiing Severe
Another variation on the classic Vallée Blanche offering wide open steeper skiing options. Excellent off-piste skiing in an absolutely breathtaking setting. The environment is very serious and should not be underestimated; it is not maintained, secured or controlled, and the route follows extremely crevassed terrain. People die here every year and you should only set off if you have the necessary skills, experience and equipment for skiing on a glacier. The route is long and excellent weather is required to complete the route safely; this is no place for bad weather or poor visibility. If you have any doubt, hire a mountain guide. Make your way down the north ridge of the Aiguille du Midi, which is equipped with a handrail during the winter season but is still exposed! Crampons are not essential here but make it much more pleasant. Get your skis on at the broad col at the foot of the ridge. Traverse down left to another col and ski the slopes diagonally leftwards to short steep pitch that exits on a series of gullies below. Depend of the state of the crevasses choose a line down and exit left onto the plateau below. Join the Petit Envers and choose between the south-east and north-east lines around the Petit Rognon.
Severe
Steep skiing at 38-45 degrees. This requires very good technique and the risk of falling has serious consequences.
