Via Alpina Green Route C2: Vaduz to Sargans Map

Leaving Vaduz in a south-westerly direction across the Rhine, you will pass over the border from Lichtenstein into the Swiss canton of St. Gallen. The first settlement you will come across in Switzerland is the tiny town of Sevelen, where the Via Alpina merges with the Rheinauen-hiking trail, crossing Sevelen in a northwesterly direction uphill. You will pass by the Haberfeld spa, football stadium, before crossing over the Rhine on a wooden footbridge. From here, follow the main road past the train station to Sevelen’s Village centre. Finally, you will start to leave urbanisation behind you and get immersed in nature, heading uphill through a picturesque woodland, through a valley to the Oberschan plateau, and on through more woodland, marshland to Gretschins. From here climb over a ridge to the village of Fontnas, where the trail descends to the edge of the Rhine, following along the base of the Alviers massif to Azmoos village. The trail then ascends through woodland to the village Vild. Pass Vild’s small chapel, heading towards Sargans castle through a series of vineyards and meadows. Once you’ve checked out the castle, continue down the main road of the small medieval town of Sargans, to the train station.
