Part of a large initiative to provide access to the Grand Canyon by bike, foot, and horseback, the Tusayan Greenway connects the South Rim Visitor's Center to the park's gateway town 6 miles south. Mostly paved, the path meanders through Kaibab National National Forest and offers the perfect opportunity to get some exercise on your visit to the Grand Canyon.

Description

The southern terminus is located in Tusayan and boasts parking for 100 cars. To the north, the Greenway terminates at the South Rim Visitor Center, home to Mather Point Overlook. Other sections of the park's Greenway Project can be accessed from the Visitor Center, and Bright Angel Bicycles even offers bicycle rentals and tours if that's more your style.

Utilizing one of the free shuttle buses operated by the National Park, shuttling the entire trail is a possibility in the warmer months. The Tusayan line only operates between May and September, though cyclists could self-shuttle any time of year. View the latest schedule and information here.

This trail parallels the road that leads into the National Park and never ventures too far from help. That said, there is no water available along the way. Consider bringing a backpack or water bottle along to stay hydrated. Also note that since the town of Tusayan is at a lower elevation than the Visitor Center, the entire route is uphill when pedaled north (as mapped).
