This uphill route is for Sugar Bowl passholders who want to earn some turns in bounds. It’s best for morning or evening fitness laps, but remains open to uphill while the lifts are operating as well. The route follows the runs Tunnel 41, Buena Vista, and Tunnel to the top of Summit Chair. Most of the ascent is on groomed blue runs, but the final push on Tunnel is steep and variable expert terrain, so some uphillers may choose to turn around at the top of Buena Vista. If you do go all the way up Tunnel, you could then continue along the ridge toward the summit of Mount Judah, or even exit the resort at a backcountry gate. Note that if you just want to access the backcountry, you could start outside the resort at the Donner Summit PCT trailhead instead. All uphillers should be familiar with Sugar Bowl’s uphill policy, and stay up to date on any changes.
