The Waihee Ridge Trail is renowned as one of the best hikes on Maui. This short but steep climb breaks out of the rainforest onto an exposed ridgeline, ending at the top of a hill named Lanilili, 2,500 feet above the ocean below. If the clouds lift (a rarity in these parts), you can enjoy stupendous views of the island and the Pacific. Otherwise, you'll hike up into a dense cloud layer and remain there until you drop back down.
Description
The trail is well-maintained and fairly easy to traverse, but expect roots and some slick mud. The area is also renowned for its birding opportunities and the incredible biodiversity of the rainforest.
