This trail goes around a large dome of solidified lava, left by one of the more recent eruptions at Craters of the Moon. You'll get elevated views over the landscape but also close-up perspectives on the wild formations and textures in the lava. Another feature is the Big Sink, an area where a bubble of hardened lava collapsed on itself. There's also a cluster of lava tubes called the Buffalo Caves, but these can only be entered by those with a special permit. Stop by the visitor center to inquire about getting a cave permit.
Moderate
