"Over 27 miles of singletrack run through Hillman State Park, located in the state game lands in and around Bavington,” writes Pennsylvania Dirt. “Known by mountain bikers as just 'Bavington,' it's one of the most beloved mountain biking trail networks in and around Pittsburgh.”
Description
The route mapped here covers some of the most popular trails in the Bavington network, found in the Five Points area. This almost 9-mile loop is popular as an after-work time trial, but of course, the ride can be extended by including other trails in the park.
On the average, Hillman State Park offers fast, flowing singletrack laced with roots that winds around the low hillsides. Unlike some other trails in Western PA, the grades here are relatively mellow—you won’t find very many steep climbs. This helps make the trails quite approachable for early intermediate mountain bikers.
Don’t expect to find modern flow features like berms and rollers at Bavington. Instead, the area is dominated by classic cross country singletrack that offers miles and miles of cranking through the woods. Whether you choose to run fast laps on this time trial course or pedal a big loop on the 27 miles of trail, Hillman State Park is the place to go for class cross country pedaling!
