A must-do hike into a narrow canyon confined by steep vertical walls.
Hiking Moderate
Devil's Hall is one of the shorter must-do hikes in Guadalupe Mountains National Park. Just 4 miles round-trip, the destination of this moderate hike is a stunning vertical-walled canyon that is "particularly beautiful in the fall when the big-toothed maple trees in the canyon are turning brilliant shades of red, orange, and yellow," according to the NPS. Large fields of boulders and a natural rock stairway lead hikers into the canyon just 2 miles from the trailhead.
This hike begins at the park headquarters, near the RV parking section for Pine Springs Campground. Look for the trailhead at the furthest corner of the parking lot from where you entered. This is also the same trailhead shared with the Guadalupe Peak Trail, a stunning yet challenging hike to the "Top of Texas!" Water and restrooms are both available in the campground.
The first portion of the hike is easy, as it winds into a sandy wash along a well-traveled path. The second mile of the hike, however, is lesser defined as you continue into the bottom of the canyon. Nearing the end of the route, there is a natural rock stairway that leads into Devil's Hall, and a sign denotes the official end of the trail. Once done, retrace your steps to return to the trailhead.
