Take the North Lynx Triple to the peak and enter the backcountry gate to Slide Brook. After you pass under the Slide Brook lift, Door #2 is the second entrance into the woods. These woods are a little wider and less steep than Door #1 and are a good option for first timers. The first section of the Door #3 is semi-tight mixed conifers, somewhat similar to Egan’s Woods on Lincoln Peak. After about 150 feet you’ll cross the snowmobile road for the first time, ignore this and continue down into the woods. After this the pitch mellows out a bit and the glade becomes open hardwoods. There is plenty of room to explore in this open forest if you’re searching for fresh tracks. Eventually you’ll hit the snowmobile track, just above the brook. Follow this out to the road and wait for the bus to stop and pick you up. The bus will take you to Mount Ellen or Lincoln Peak depending on which direction it’s going. Like any backcountry area, go with a partner and bring a cell phone in case of emergency. Slide Brook is not patrolled and rescue will take a long time to reach you.
