Description

If you’re looking for mountain views and endless possibilities to explore on foot, then you need to plan a trip to Zermatt! Zermatt is home to over 400km of hiking network trails and 38 four thousand-metre peaks, including the magnificent 4,478-metre-high Matterhorn mountain dominating the skyline.

There are strenuous summit climbs, remote alpine lakes, and short family-friendly excursions all within easy reach of the beautiful car-free town of Zermatt. As well as the views, a reliable chairlift system, and well-signed trails, there is, of course, the other bonus of hiking in the Swiss Alps: the reward of hearty cheese fondue in a quaint mountain hut!

For a pretty ridgeline walk with the chance to spot marmots, try the Blauherd - Sunnegga (Marmot Trail). To walk in the footsteps of Mark Twain, follow one of his favourite trails: Riffelberg - Riffelalp (Mark Twain)!

Adventures

Blauherd - Sunnegga (Marmot Trail)

A pretty walk along the ridge line of the face towards Blauherd. There's no tree cover and the path does drop away steeply to the right, so avoid this if you suffer from fear of heights!

The 5-Lake path

Beautiful longer walk around the lakes between Sunnegga and Gornergrat
