Description

Gaborone, Botswana’s capital city, isn’t designed for pedestrians, so running off the tarred roads is always a safer and more pleasant option. While African cities are busy and noisy, the bush is never far away. In Gaborone, several wilderness trails located just a few kilometres away provide a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of this fast-growing town. Most are located southwest of the city, in and around Kgale Hill and Mokolodi Game Reserve. This also happens to be where the only runnable hills are to be found. This is ideal for those looking for some elevation gain or awesome views of the Gaborone dam and the bush around it.

The team behind TheTrail.Run hosts a monthly trail run on the last Saturday of every run at Mokolodi Game Reserve, which is well worth joining. Best of all: with it being a game reserve, it's full of wildlife. Who wouldn’t want to have the chance of seeing rhino, zebra, giraffe, or any one of dozens of species that are often sighted here?!

Mokolodi Game Reserve: 6kms trail

A great 6kms trail route that gives a little elevation gain, a nice view of Lake Gwithian and every chance of seeing some game. Giraffe are always a crowd favourite.
