If you’re looking for a beautiful, sub-alpine meadow, long run, this is it. It includes all of the Kokanee Glacier Park Trails.
A selection of favourite trail, ultra and sky running in the Kootenays
The Southwest Kootenays of British Columbia offer many gems for trail and mountain running. Information on whether routes exist or are even possible can be difficult to find. Trails in this guidebook can be accessed from the towns of Nelson, Kaslo, Duncan, Crawford Bay, Kimberley, and Cranbrook.
The trails include everything from flowing single track to technical rocky and scrambling. Please read the descriptions, as some routes are more for the adventure-minded and require route-finding and bushwhacking. Carrying bear spray and a satellite communication device are recommended, as most remote routes lack cellphone service. High clearance and AWD vehicles are encouraged for accessing some of the trails that require driving up Forest Service Roads. Many of these trails are maintained by non-profits and volunteers, so ensure you donate to them.
Enjoy the views and the adventures.
