The Schladming-Dachstein region, located in central Austria, is a great location to explore if you’re looking for a respite in nature that is both diverse and accessible.
Hiking options range from family walks to alpine tours and summit conquests. Families with strollers and mountaineers alike will revel in the rewarding trails and scenic landscape.
Three popular long-distance hiking trails are accessible from this region, such as the Styrian hiking route “From Glacier to Wine”, Panoramaweg 100, and Dachstein Rundwanderweg.
This area is certainly worth checking out, especially with its more than 50 huts, around 1000 kilometers of marked trails, and myriad water features like picturesque waterfalls and springs.

Easy hike, though one rich in variety, from Breitlahnhütte in Kleinsölktal Valley, to Lake Schwarzensee. Beautiful family hike with a water theme path!
Guided hike through the Notgasse, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage. The Notgasse, located at the foot of the Stoderzinken, connects Gröbming to alpine pastures at higher elevations. The trail, which is only accessible to pedestrians, was used by hill-farmers, packers and employees of the charcoal works. The impressive gorge, with rock walls as much as 60 meters in height and its historic petroglyphs, envelops the visitor in an aura of the mysterious and mystical.
An inconspicuously sophisticated tour - from the adventure park, you will first travel to the left towards the summit cross entrance after the first steep climb. Travelling through the back of Freinstein, you will reach the Freinstein summit cross via a few steep steps and return to the starting point via Assacherscharte.
Manageable daily stages, no need for ropes or climbing gear, trail time between 4 and 7 hours, through an imposing alpine massif famous for its breadth of landscapes.

A hike from the Kneipp facility Gröbming through the wild romantic "ovens" to the Viehbergalm. Here you will find several refreshment stops to take a typical alpine picnic and strengthen yourself for the further hike to the Miesbodensee.
Take the cable car up the mountain - down into the valley you go by foot!
