The Ultimate Wapta Traverse Backcountry Ski Guide

The Wapta Traverse is a 40 kilometre ski traverse which follows the spine of the Rockies just outside Lake Louise Alberta. It is a Canadian classic that takes five days and combines four huts, Peyto Hut, the Bow Hut, the Balfour Hut and the Scott Duncan Hut.

The Wapta Traverse is a classic Canadian ski traverse located in the heart of the Rockies just outside Lake Louise Alberta, Canada. The route follows the spine of the Canadian Rockies over a distance of 40 kilometres covering expansive glaciated terrain. Along the way there are four Alpine Club Of Canada Huts to make the journey more enjoyable; the Peyto Hut, the Bow Hut, the Balfour Hut and the Scott Duncan Hut. If you have your crevasse rescue and white out navigations skills dialled then this is the traverse for you, if not, be sure to hire a professional guide or join an organised outfit to ensure your safety and success.
