Description

The so-called "Land of the White Cloud", New Zealand is one of the World's most beautiful and peaceful countries. The weather is not always particularly peaceful but the unpredictable and often savage climate means that ski conditions can suddenly transform and provide you with an unexpected gift.

The beauty of the routes described here (which are a combination of pure freeride lines and short ski tours accessed from a lift) is that they all sit on slightly different aspects across various ski areas. As such, skiers armed with a car, some flexibility and the ability to judge conditions will have a great time working their way through these lines and (hopefully) skiing them straight after snowfalls!

Adventures

Soho Basin

Fantastic easily accessible ski touring that's perfect for a first tour.

The Doolans

Great skiing that gets you well away from the resort and the crowds

Elevator

The classic of the Alta Chutes, which can sometimes make Elevator over-popular.

Matukituki Basin

Another bowl in the Home Basin offering incredible views and great terrain.

Motutapu Chutes

The infamous Motutapu Chutes - New Zealand sidecountry at its best

Super Pipe

A steeper walled pipe that collects a lot of snow

Escalator

The middle Alta Chutes, much quieter than its neighbours
