Description

The beautiful mountains of the Austrian Tirol are legendary for good reason; they rise startlingly out of bright, green meadows and are home to some fabulous scrambles. The peaks listed here are some of the most famous in the region and while some are merely tough walks, others are serious (albeit not particularly technical) glaciated mountaineering routes.

Every summit in the Tirol feels special because they are all home to huge metal crosses and epic views, but these 10 are particularly meaningful simply because they look so good and are so well known! For summit baggers and bar-room braggers, this list is the ultimate Tirolian ticklist.

Adventures

Serles

The so-called “Altar of Tirol”, Serles is the most famous peak in the region, and rules the view above Innsbruck.

Habicht

A classic mountain day to one of Tirol's most famous and prominent peaks

Wilder Pfaff and Zuckerhütl

A fabulous mountaineering day over 2 peaks (the second of which is the highest in the Stubai) and on to a cable car.

Guffertspitze Traverse

The Guffertspitze is an impressive peak and the West ridge is a wonderful climb for those looking for a relatively low stress adventure in the mountains.

Zwölferkogel North Ridge

A spectacular 380 metre scramble up the north ridge of the Zwölferkogel, a peak just under 3000m in Austria’s highest ski resort.
