Description

There's some fabulous easier ski tours above the silver-mining-turned-powder-paradise town of Telluride (check this out if you don't believe us - https://fatmap.com/guidebooks/25858/the-best-beginner-ski-tours-in-telluride's-backcountry) but there's no doubt that there's even more terrain for intermediate and expert tourers than for beginners. The trio of tours listed here exemplify exactly why the area is so famous - the adventures are all attainable, but feel big and serious no matter how skilled and experienced you are.

2 of the tours in here begin in the Telluride lift system, but they feel pretty full-on despite the relatively easy access to them. The final tour described - Liberty Bell to Tomboy - is a classic circular journey, starting and ending in downtown Telluride and taking in some truly spectacular scenery en route. A tour of that quality would be a highlight of any trip, but the fact that it sits high above one of North America's most legendary mountain towns only adds to its appeal.

There's plenty more terrain - including some truly extreme stuff - to explore above Telluride, but these 3 lines are worth a few days of anyone's time. Most skiers dream of a roadtrip around the San Juan mountains, and now there's 3 more reasons why!
