There are plenty of difficult north faces (!) to climb Chamonix, but there's a few easier ones too. Here are 5 to get you started.
Chamonix is rightly known for its hard, high and scary alpine climbs but that doesn't mean that there aren't some easier routes there to get your alpine climbing career underway.
Perhaps the most iconic type of alpine climb is the "classic north face" and Chamonix is home to some of the most legendary of those, such as the Drus, Grandes Jorasses and Droites. For most climbers those are dream routes and it can be hard to know where to start on the journey towards the dream - this guidebook is your answer.
The 5 routes described here are serious alpine climbs but lack but the length and technical difficulty of those legendary faces mentioned above. If you work your way through these you will have gained a solid understanding of alpine conditions and those bigger routes might feel a little more attainable. Before attempting them, completing these other FATMAP guidebooks as well is highly recommended -
