Description

Thanks to a combination of beautiful ocean coastline, rolling mountains, soaring redwood trees, historic sites, and iconic architecture like the Golden Gate Bridge, the San Francisco Bay Area is absolutely filled with drop dead gorgeous hikes!

You don’t have to go far to find good hiking, either. With trails as close to the city center as Land’s End, you can be on a great trail in minutes. If you want to travel further afield, head north across the Golden Gate Bridge to access stunning scenery in the headlands, and head higher up in the mountains. Driving over the Bay Bridge to the east brings you to a drier but equally-beautiful climate. And to the south along the peninsula, even more trails await.

It’s no wonder that the Bay Area is such a desirable place to live and visit—it’s tough to choose a bad hike here! To whet your appetite, start with the hikes on this list, and then branch out from there!
