Description

If you want to experience alpine hut to hut ski touring without glaciers, crowds and high altitude, this is the tour for you. The huts on this tour are exceptionally welcoming and the mountains are, by the standards of the French Alps, incredibly quiet. The tour starts just a 2 hour drive from Turin and half an hour from Briançon, so access is straightforward.

There are no glaciers to worry about on this trip but the terrain is still big and serious so make sure that avalanche conditions are safe before setting out.

The highlight of the tour is summiting Mont Thabor, one of the most famous mountains in France. It has a small chapel on the summit and is utterly spectacular, with the view across the Ecrins Alps being particularly impressive. If that view whets your appetite for adventure, check out the truly wild Ecrins Haute Route -
