Description

Since Los Angeles is renowned as the second most populous metropolitan region in the USA, the uninitiated may be surprised to learn that the San Gabriel Mountain Range rises directly from the edge of the suburbs, soaring from sea level to peak elevations of over 10,000 feet! Consequently, the metropolitan sprawl is hemmed in by the mountains on one side and the ocean on the other, forcing the city to stretch north and south as it continues to grow.

For mountain bikers, this means that incredible mountain bike trails that can be accessed directly from the edge of the city! A plethora of singletrack trails and dirt roads descend from the crest of the mountain range all the way down to the outskirts of the megalopolis far, far below. While of course you can choose to pedal up the mountain the hard way, with about 5,000 feet of descending on most of these routes, the preferred method is definitely to shuttle to the top of these trails.

Several shuttle companies provide commercial options, or if you have a few buddies, it can be cheaper to set up your own shuttle. However you choose to run the logistics, these epic runs down the mountain are guaranteed to put a smile on your face!
