Easy ski tour slightly off to the side of the main pistes in Ofterschwang
There's a surprising amount of good resort touring in Germany - here are the highlights!
Some skiers make the mistake of writing off Germany as a ski country, assuming that its best trait is that it's near Austria. It might come as a surprise, therefore, that Germany itself has a cluster of excellent ski areas.
In here you'll find a list of ski tours which take place in these resorts, and all of them are scenic and lead to typically hearty Germanic restaurants! For most of the tours in here you'll just need to bring a bottle of water and a bit of cash to buy a good meal when you reach the top! The food in Germany is, in fact, SO hearty that even after a 2 hour ski tour you might still go home having consumed more calories than you burned!
One final thing - resort touring takes place, by definition, in a ski resort. Before doing any of these tours, make sure that you’re allowed to do so at that time. With grooming machines driving around, and resorts entitled to stop tourers using their runs if the rules are ignored, please stick to the restrictions of each resort. We want to be able to keep ski touring next season and all the ones after that - as on every ski day, the goal should always be to “ski tomorrow”!

The MARKER / VÖLKL ski touring trail to the Tegelberg was created in 2013. It enables the skiers to climb up the Tegelberg almost free of oncoming traffic. It was created in cooperation with the Tegelbergbahn due to the increasing number of skiers on the slopes. The ascent route starts at the Tegelbergbahn car park and starts on a separate forest path past the Mountain Lodge of the mountain guides, where the ORTOVOX LVS checkpoint is also located. Tegelberg ski touring nature trailThe importance of ski touring in leisure activities is increasing all the time. The Tegelberg in Schwangau has established itself as a very popular touring mountain, which also leads to conflicts with alpine skiers. For this reason, an exemplary solution for the Alpine region was worked out with the professional mountain guides on site under the currently valid guidelines, which do justice to both tourers and alpine skiers.
Tuesdays and Thursdays are ski touring evenings in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. From the car park of the Hausbergbahn, you follow the specially provided and prepared ascent track to the mountain station of the Hausbergbahn and then directly to the stop at the "Drehmöser 9". After that the Pisen are closed and will be prepared again for the next day's skiing operation. It is essential to stick to these times and to the closures of the other pistes. It happens again and again that ski tourers who are not familiar with the area ski on the wrong slopes. As the pistes are worked with snow groomers on strongly tensioned steel ropes, this behaviour can be life-threatening.
