Description

Lake O’Hara is a spectacular Alpine Lake located in Yoho National Park. Due to its remote location it’s much more difficult to visit than some of the other lakes in the area, such as the world-famous Lake Louise; however, those who do get to visit are rewarded with some world class hiking trails and majestic views of the surrounding mountains and lakes.

One of the biggest challenges to visiting Lake O’Hara is the limited accommodation options. There are huts available along with a large backcountry campground, but due to its incredible location, they normally sell out the same day they go on sale.

The campground reservations normally open in January for the following summer season. To make sure you don’t miss out, you want to be ready to book as soon as reservations open and be flexible with dates. If you are unsuccessful at reserving accommodation don’t despair, there are other ways to visit this stunning area.

There is a bus that does shuttles from the parking lot to the Lake, however this needs to be reserved in advance and it’s a random draw, so there’s a lot of luck involved. That leaves you with the final option... which is to hike the 11km access road to the lake. This sounds long, but it’s actually a pretty easy hike and most people reach the lake in around 2 hours, which gives you plenty of time to do some of the outstanding hiking trails around Lake O'Hara.

Visiting Lake O’Hara should be on everyone's Bucket List. This is a magnificent area and the hiking trails in this guidebook will show you the best Lake O’Hara has to offer. It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner hiker or a seasoned scrambler, there is something here for everyone and this is will be a trip you will be reminiscing about for many years to come.
