Description

On the way from the Watschiger Alm to the Kammleiten, the trail crosses a unique rock shortly before reaching the summit.

It consists of colorful, decimeter-sized rounded boulders of limestone and dolomite.

The rock is called "Muschelkalk-Konglomerat" or Uggowitz-Brekzie and was formed in the older Triassic (about 230 million years ago).

The 44 m thick rock builds the entire The summit of Kammleiten, only in the lower part it is wiped by an approximately four meter thick layer of green volcanic tuffs.

These tuffs could be an indication of the formation of an earthquake or volcanic eruption that shook the seabed, lifting parts of the subsoil above the surrounding area.

So square rock debris could accumulate at the foot of the Hochscholle which has been relocated, transported, crushed and rounded near the coast.

The consolidation to a conglomerate took place through the superimposed load of the overlying rocks. equipment
