Description

On the northwestern slope of the Krone there is a rich occurrence of plant impressions from the younger Carboniferous (about 300 million years ago today).

The famous plant find, which can be recognized from afar as a brown, vegetation-less spot, is located at an altitude of about 1,730 m in the middle part of the plateau-like elevation of the crown that can be seen from afar.

The plant fossils are found at the andpunkt in fine sandstones and the even finer siltstones.

Besides lycopod plants, horsetails (Calamites), Cordaites (today extinct conifers) and prints of real ferns and seed ferns are represented.

Everything suggests that this flora must have grown nearby and not been transported far.

It was probably a moor with trees in the immediate vicinity of the coast of the Tethys Sea. equipment
