The mountain village of Saxeten, with less than 100 souls, is considered by connoisseurs to be the starting point for unique summit hikes.

The nearby hiking destinations Bällehöchst and Morgenberghorn offer incomparable panoramic views. From the minibus station you first take the small road into the valley to Innerfeld.

The hard surface ends at the Rengggraben.

The Alpsträsschen also begins to rise more steeply.

Where it turns a few hundred metres out of the valley, the view to the waterfalls of the Wyss and Saxet brooks becomes clear.

The large loop of the alpine road is cut on the old alpine path.

Only shortly before the Nessleren/Underberg alpine hut does the gradient ease temporarily.

The massive Schwalmere rock massif dominates the Alpkessel. The road descends slightly to the Saxetbach, narrows to the Alpweg and changes into a path in another very steep ascent.

Through forest parts and over flower-rich pastures you approach Hinder Balls above the forest line (to Saxetwald-Saxeten 2h, to Saxetwald-Wilderswil 2h40).

The view after the strenuous ascent is magnificent: from the Morgenberghorn the wavy lines of the Leissig and Därlig ridges run down to the Aabeberg.

In the depth the houses of Saxeten lie close together.

The change is surprising: an extensive scree slope stretches down from Sulegg to Alp Sylere; countless gorges have eaten their way into the slate rubble.

When it is very quiet, you can even hear the water gurgling and the stones collapsing.

The viewpoint Bällehöchst is still a good quarter of an hour ahead.

Rarely do you experience the diversity of the foothills of the Alps and the enormous differences in altitude more impressively than here.

Niederhorn, Hohgant, Schrattenflue and Brienzergrat can be seen in the depths of Lake Brienz and the eastern part of Lake Thun.

In the south, the Jungfrau and the mountains in the rear Lauterbrunnen Valley shine. For the descent, take the path back to point 1998 and then walk through the aforementioned scree of Tschingel.

Caution is advised when crossing the final fluh bands.

Passing the Sulsseewli, in which the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau are reflected, you reach the Sulshütten and 10 min later the huts in the Chüebodmi (after Sousläger-Grütschalp 1h20).
