Description

This descent is a long itinerary from the top station, Punta Indren, until the middle station, Gabiet.

It is a popular tour for guide's with groups so, although the route is not very obvious, the track is often already set by them.

However, the traverse is not suitable for snowboarders.

It begins by following the ridge line of the Altaluce (Hochliecht) to reach the Salza col.

You will then head back towards the Oreste Hutte to arrive at the middle station.

From the top station at Punta Indren traverse across the left side of the small Indren glacier without loosing height until you reach an extensive rock band (the line of the traverse is usually safe but beware of small crevasses covered by snow).

Keep traversing on the diagonal at the same height (this area is especially prone to slabs forming from high winds).

Continue past a small valley descending from the Mantova hut and cross to the other face remaining on the same trajectory until you reach a small plateau where the descent begins.

Follow the slopes curving round to the right until you see the Salza col in front of you.

The Oreste Hutte will come into view as you descend the obvious undulating valley to the East.

Once you reach the hut follow the Canale dell'Aquila itinerary to the middle station.
