Description

This is one of the best lines in the Wasatch! The scenery, terrain and location line up to make it a must ski if you're into adventure backcountry.

Approach from Wasatch Blvd., turn E onto Oakview Dr.

(4275 South).

This road is immediately N of a pedestrian overpass that crosses Wasatch Blvd.

Follow Oakview Dr.

uphill and make a right turn on Jupiter Dr.

(3735 East).

Follow Jupiter Drive S and and turn left on Adonis Drive (4505 South).

Drive a short distance to Thousand Oaks Drive (4500 South) and turn right.

Continue up Thousand Oaks Drive, going past a sharp left turn, to a cul-de-sac above two water tanks, and park.

From the parking, start up the trail towards the approach gully following some switchbacks.

At the bottom edge of the gully, the trail will eventually disappear and become a 2nd class approach through the lower part of the gully which will have some third class sections.

The top of the line runs right off the ridge in an open, slightly treed slope.

It angles to the right and narrows down as it also becomes much steeper.

The pitch is in the mid 40's, get's narrow and rock lined as a proper chute should.

It remains this way for quite some time and then angles to the skiers left as it connects with the main lower chute below Medusa's Face.

Here the pitch lessens and the chute widens for several hundred feet of good skiing.

There can be large piles of wet debris that fill the chute and can make for some challenging skiing.

Those piles of snow can flush from the upper face so make sure conditions are good.

The chute opens up into the thicket below.

This can be very bad thrashing in tight brush, so be prepared and try to follow your up track to minimize the suffering.
