Description

Courchevel has the best storm skiing in the whole 3 Valleys area and the Roc Mugnier trees are a perfect place to hide when visibility is poor but the snow is deep… This face is short but oh so sweet with options from widely spaced trees where you can really let it rip to super-tight forest where you will be lucky to come out without ‘tree antlers’ and maybe a few bruises. From the Roc Mugnier red piste hang a right along a broad rounded ‘ridge’ and follow this leftwards, resisting the temptation to head into the first obvious gully entrance on skier’s right - this leads into a very steep-sided terrain trap which normally has a tricky rocky/scratchy step in it too.

Stay skier’s left of the main ridge and watch out for the elephant trap which has been known to catch out many a rider on a flat light day.

If the visibility is really poor you can stay on the piste and take the zigzag ‘cut-off’ path on the right - just keep going when it makes a sharp left. As the slope starts to roll off you can dive straight in towards the more open lines, or keep working your way down the ridge (be wary of cornices above the cliffs on the far side of this ridge!) which will take you towards the tighter trees on the skier’s right side of the face.

Whichever way you go down the main face it will drop you back onto the Roc Mugnier piste from where you can hammer down and head back for another lap.

For the exhibitionists if you stay left down the face you can cross the piste and link up with the chairlift clearing all the way to the bottom!
