Description

Upper Hughes is a GS carver’s dream! This steep, endless, groomed trail runs top-to-bottom with almost a perfect fall line, and when the snow is fresh, this trail is a treat! Because it is so ideal for making fast, steep turns, this blue/black is often being used by race teams from around the country.

When this is the case, parts of the trail or the whole enchilada can be closed to everyone but racers.

Hughes can get icy between storms.

Winter Park is one of the oldest ski areas in the country.

When it opened in 1940, there were only three trails, and one of them was Hughes, named after Berrien Hughes, a skiing pioneer who died a few days before the dedication ceremonies in a skiing accident on Berthoud Pass.
