Description

##Descent on the Argentière glacier From the Grands Montets pass, reach the Argentière glacier.

Start with the "Point de vue" trail and quickly leave it on the right to descend the Rognons glacier to the NE towards the Argentière glacier.

(classic off-piste with many variants.

The ropes are usually crossed through a small opening with a warning sign).

Pass classically near the Rognon on the 3000 m side (rather to the right) then to the S of the Rognons moraine.

By a crossing on the right, reach the Argentière glacier. Cross the Argentière glacier to reach the slopes of the left bank of the Chardonnet glacier under the base of Straton Ridge. ##Ascent Go up a short steep slope (sometimes with crampons) then cross to the left and cross a moraine to reach the Chardonnet glacier.

By an excellent snow cover, it may be possible to go directly up the slopes under the glacier (plotted on the IGN map).

Go up the glacier, rather on the left bank then return to the centre when the slope softens and join the pass by a last crossing to the right. ##Descending Go down the same route or along the right bank of the Chardonnet glacier (more sustained) to the Argentière glacier, cross it horizontally to reach the off-piste areas of the Grands Montets on the left bank.

Follow the left edge of the glacier (sometimes very cracked and narrow route) and after a low slope area, exit the glacier upstream of a serac area around 2300 m to join the slopes or off-piste to Argentière.

In case of low snowfall, reach Lognan and the artificially snow-covered "Pierre à Ric" piste.

_This Adventure has been shared under the [Creative Commons Share Alike](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.5/) licence._
