Description

This steep, narrow couloir is difficult to find and thus less popular than the nearby Three Way Exit Chute.

For experts willing to put in a little extra work, this couloir is spectacular, steep and often untracked.

Follow the traverse to Three Way Exit Chute (see description).

Just before reaching the Exit Chute, boot pack up the steep face to the skier's left to the highest point near the trees.

Billy's Chute drops off sharply back into Silver Basin.

Approach with caution.

A large cornice forms over the couloir.

Watch for rocks and ice towards the nearly vertical top.

The couloir makes a slight turn to the left and opens below to a wide apron.

Watch for frozen avalanche debris as this chute slides regularly.

While the ski patrol mitigates avalanche hazard in this terrain, this couloir does not see much skier compaction.

Treat this as true backcountry.

Carry proper equipment, ski or ride with a partner and go one at a time.
