Description

Mjelkefjellet, with its N-NW slopes is an excellent ski mountain by itself, sitting right next to the E6 road which provides easy access and great skiing.

The main summit (1366m) is quite popular.

The route leads up and down a ridge, which can be hard and scoured by winds.

Alternatively, the large north-facing bowl provides often good, steeper skiing.

Most folks flock there, but the mountain holds another summit: the west summit (1266m).

Its NE facing slopes are more protected from the winds, and offer pleasant pitches.

Plus you will be among the very few who visit this summit. The tour starts at the Lapphaugen tourist station (if you have an electric car, there is charger for you right there as well).

Follow the flats through the trees.

When you get to the first slope, either head right and follow a ramp, or go left (roughly where the descent route is shown).

You get to a small lake, where your route derivates from the the route to Mjelkefjellet main.

Work up the benches on the NE slope.

Then you need to work your way onto the north ridge.

Space out properly because you have some overhead hazard here, and a big slope beneath you.

Once on the ridge, you are good.

Follow the ridge to the summit, and be mindful of the cornices to your left.

Enjoy the run down, dropping from the ridge into a small bowl.

It is often worth skiing back to the lake, and reascending to do another run.

Alternatively, you can also ski the W-NW face back to Lapphaugen.
