From the Church of Santa Marta go downhill in the direction of N the SS340 for 400m.
A paved road closed to private traffic climbs steeply (signposted Monti di Carate), to soon become a paved cartroad with very steep slopes.
Passing through small groups of huts, it passes through the village of Monti di Carate, continues lapping what remains of the old abandoned quarries of Moltrasio stone and, with always well-indicated forks, finally reaches a path halfway along the coast that leads to the Colma dei Murelli, with the imposing building of the former barracks that has already been seen in the distance. ## Descent For the uphill route. Once you have reached the last dry stone walls of the quarries, near a tower building, turn right (signposted Santa Marta-Somaino) into a paved path that is even steeper than the one you took in the first half of the year, which leads directly to the Church of Santa Marta and, if you wish, continues with a paved staircase, passing under the SS340 and then reaching the lake road.

_This Adventure has been shared under the [Creative Commons Share Alike](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.5/) licence._
