Description

This is a long day and it can be shortened by stopping at one of the villages you pass through between Chukhung and Namche Bazaar, but most people, after a few weeks on the trail, are willing to put in a bit of effort and make it down to the "big smoke"! Namche is a buzzing little town with bars, fast internet and good bakeries, so after being in such a tough environment for so long, it provides a strong incentive to get you along those final kilometres of trail. Hike west on a good trail for an hour down to Dingboche, which enjoys a fantastic close up view of Ama Dablam, and then carry on west/south-west through a series of smaller villages to Pangboche.

Cimb up to reach the World famous Tengboche monastery.

Take one final look at the upper Khumbu and then descend down to a deep, tree filled gorge.

Make one final climb up to the well known landmark that is Tashi's lodge at Kyangjuma and then follow the long descending path that leads to Namche.

The capital of the Khumbu, Namche is wonderful and feels noisy and exciting compared to where you've been over the past few weeks.

Grab a drink, buy some donuts and catch up on emails! From Namche, all that is left is the simple but fairly long task of hiking all the way back to Lukla on the main Everest Base Camp trail.
