Description

Hunziker, or Hunzie Main, is a very steep and straight chute lined by rocks and cliffs that turns into the single black Hunker Bowl, which has its own entrance.

Hunzie Main is classic gnarl.

On a powder day, it’s epic.

On a hard-packed day, it’s still excellent, as long as you don’t fall.

This line has the fewest bumps of any off the Kachina Peak Chair. To get to Hunziker, ski midway down Main Street and look for the trees to your right.

On the other side of the trees, pick your way down, staying just right of the trees until you see the chute open up.

You’re asking for trouble if you go too far to the right.

At the bottom of the chute, it is possible, though impractical, to exit through the entrance to Hunziker Bowl, but this part of the mountain is lunar and beautiful; you’d be crazy not to continue down.
