Description

Getting to Hunziker Bowl requires a short walk, not really a hike, from the base of the Kachina Peak Lift.

Once there, skiers are given the sensation that they’ve moved to a different mountain.

The Hunziker area is large and the top is split by a large formation of rocks.

To the near side of the split is Hunziker Bowl, which has a funnel shape.

After the bumpy top section pinches closer, it again widens into an enormous open area with large boulders that give it a lunar feel.

Every trip to Taos should include a stop here.

Hunziker Bowl is said to have been Taos Ski Valley founder Ernie Blake’s favourite run, which is why they try to groom it at least once during the season.

If you hear someone say Hunzinger, which you probably will, they mean Hunziker.
